European Roulette Tips and Strategies
Before applying certain strategies, it is convenient to know the different types of roulette that exist. European roulette is a good option for the casino player; gives you a bigger edge than American roulette.
The application of strategies such as the Martingale, Fibonacci or D’Alembert, although they do not guarantee profits, they can increase our probabilities. Of all the games you can win at the casino, roulette is probably the most popular. Or at least the most emblematic.
They are synonymous with emotion and we frequently associate them with the glamor of the salons of Monte Carlo or Las Vegas. But playing these casino games requires more than just elegance: it takes study, patience, and even some mathematical knowledge. Today we will see the best European roulette strategies for you to get the most out of your bets.
European roulette: a good choice
Before applying the different strategies we must know the types of roulettes that exist. Basically, we distinguish three: European roulette –which is the star of our article today–, French roulette and American roulette:
European Roulette
This roulette is made up of 37 pockets; 36 numbers in alternating red and black squares + 0.
French Roulette
This roulette is similar to the European one (36 numbers + 0); the only difference is found in the design of the mat. In European roulette the participants will bet on one side of the table; in French roulette, on the other hand, bets are placed on both sides.
American Roulette
American Roulette has 38 slots; 36 numbers in alternating red and black boxes + 0 + 00.
To discover how to play roulette and win it is important to know these differences and choose accordingly; from the distribution and number of boxes (due to the presence or not of 00) a greater or lesser advantage is derived for the player and the house. European roulette is, in principle, more favorable to the player. The house edge in European roulette is 2.7%, compared to 5.2% in American roulette. Therefore, choosing European roulette seems like a good option.
There is another kind of random roulette that is outside the conventional framework, but at heart it is an update of European roulette. We are referring to, for example, Lightning Roulette or Cassiopeia Roulette, both versions of Live Roulette that can be easily found in many UK casinos, including of course our online casino.
The Martingale Strategy in European Roulette
It is one of the most popular strategies, among other things because it is one of the simplest and easiest to understand. Its origin dates back to 18th century France, coinciding with the invention of French roulette. It takes its name from Martigues, a town near Marseille.
What is the Martingale?
This system, applicable to both roulette and online blackjack or other English card games, consists of doubling the starting bet every time the player loses. When said player wins in a round, he will recover the previous losses by adding to it a profit similar to that of his original bet.
The Martingale is not a perfect strategy, far from it. The player will most likely have to wager larger and larger amounts, which could put his finances at risk. To prevent this situation, casinos can set certain betting limits.
Let’s look at an example:
The player bets €5 on red. He can win double (€10) or lose €5.
The player wins and gets €10. Now he will bet half, €5. If you lose, however, you will have to double the initial bet, that is, €10.
Let’s say the player bets and loses again. Following the same logic of doubling the bet every time we lose, now we must bet €20 on red.
Why does the Martingale work like this?
Why do we do that? Well, the theory behind the Martingale tells us that if we double our bet every time we lose, we will end up winning and getting the desired benefits.
If we stick to the theory, the player, every time he bets, has a 50% chance of losing. The second time this chance will decrease to 25%. On the third bet it will drop to 13%. In the fifth, 13%. And so on: when the player has made 10 consecutive bets, the probability of losing will be reduced to 1%. The Martingale strategy defends that the negative streak will be broken at some point and then we will recover everything lost. When the player wins, he recovers not only these losses, but his original bet.
The Martingale problem
The problem with this system is that the player can run out of money before starting to make a profit. Players who apply the Martingale can reach the limit of the bet allowed by the casino before winning. It is a clear drawback.
The Fibonacci Strategy in European Roulette
In the sequence known as Fibonacci each number is the result of the sum of the previous two: 1-1-2-3-5-8-13-21…
The player makes a simple bet of €1 on red. He loses and, following the sequence, bets €1 again. He loses again and now, the result of the sum of the previous two, he will bet €2 (1+1=2). When we win, we must go back two bets in the sequence of numbers and place a bet with that amount.
This system will allow us to play long intervals of time with bets of small amounts.
The D’Alembert Strategy
The D’Alembert strategy, one of the oldest known, is to increase our bet when we lose and, instead, reduce it when we win. That is, if, for example, we bet €10 and lose, we will increase the amount bet to €20. If we lose this time, we will reduce it to 10. This system is perfect for prudent players as it allows us to lose as little as possible and keep a certain amount of bets.
Let’s look at a teaching example:
We make a €1 bet: we lose and our payout is -€1.
Now we bet €2: we lose again and our balance is €-3 (-1-2= -3)
We bet €3 and this time we won. Our balance will be like this: 1-2+3= 0.
We have won, so we will bet €2 and keep €1. If now we are lucky and we win our sale it will be the following: -1-2+3+2= 2 €
In the fifth step we save €1 again and bet another. If we lose: -1-2+3+2-1= +1€.
Now we will add €1 to the bet made previously: we bet €2. In case we win, the total sum of our balance will be like this: 1-2+3+2-1+2= €3.
The Labouchere Strategy
This is one of the most complex roulette strategies, and perhaps for this reason (unlike what happens with Martingale) it is not one of the most popular. Recommended for those casino players with a taste for rigorous method and mathematics.
In short, we can say that the player has to decide in advance how much money he wants to win and write down a numerical sequence that adds up to said win. Yes, you want to win €14, you can write this series: 1-2-4-4-2-1
But let’s see how exactly this curious system works:
The first thing will be to write a sequence of 6 numbers (in our case: 1-2-4-4-2-1). Our winnings will be, if all goes according to plan, the sum of these numbers.
Its time to bet and we will make it odd-even, red-black or high-low. The amount? The sum of the extreme numbers of the sequence (in our example; 1 + 1= 2).
If we are lucky and we win, we cross out those numbers and we will add the ones that are now at the ends of the sequence.
Let’s imagine that now we lose. We will note at the end of the sequence of numbers the sum of the two extremes and we will add them again.
The ultimate goal of this method will be to end up crossing out all the numbers in the sequence. If we succeed, we will have won an amount equal to the total sum of the numbers in the initial sequence.
7 tips to play European roulette well
In addition to the different systems that we have seen, it is convenient to know some keys to the game of roulette; They will help us to be more prudent but also more effective. here are some tips
Set your budget
As its name suggests, games of chance depend on that, on luck, and roulette strategies will not guarantee us profits, although they will increase our success rate. Bearing this in mind, we should not bet beyond what our economy can bear; We should only bet amounts of money that we “can” lose. Let’s not take unnecessary risks, prudence is a virtue in every casino player.
Do not reinvest
A useful tip for both veteran players and beginners: do not reinvest profits. That is, if you achieve winning bets withdraw the amount with which you started the game and bet only with the winnings.
Study the different possible bets
We can opt to bet even/odd (multiple bets), decide to bet full (single numbers)… There are numerous bets that you can make in European roulette. The most convenient thing will be, therefore, to know them by heart and then choose, with due criteria, the one that best suits our interests.
Retreating is also winning
It is not easy to retire on time when we are in the middle of an exciting game and more, if luck is smiling at us. But retreating at the right time is also winning and, sometimes, knowing how to win is as important (or more´´) as knowing how to lose. As soon as you make a profit, leave the game.
The value of experience
All players know that experience is a value. There are things that are not learned in any book, not even accepting advice like this that we are giving: only our own experience will make us great players. Therefore, the smartest thing is to start playing free games in your reference online casino; Take advantage of the different promotions that they usually do, when you are prepared, betting low amounts and thus reducing the risks.
Mathematical probability: a crucial factor
European roulette players must take probability into account when it comes to covering as many numbers in play as possible. The percentages vary depending on the bets we make (if, for example, we bet on 2 of the 3 possible dozens, we would have a 66% chance of winning).
Place bets on groups of numbers
We know that numbers can be classified according to their location on the wheel. Depending on this distribution, we have:
Orphans: 1, 20, 14, 31, 9, 17, 34 and 6,
Cylinder third: 33, 16, 24, 5, 10, 23, 8, 30, 11, 36, 13 and 27
Neighbors of 0: 22, 18, 29, 7, 28, 12, 35, 3, 26, 32, 15, 19, 4, 21, 2 and 25
If we bet on groups of numbers, our chances of winning will increase.
Conclusion
In short: we must remember that, although applying certain strategies and tricks to win at roulette intelligently does not guarantee success, it can increase our chances. Not all casino games rely on chance to the same extent; online slots, for example, do not support this type of system, no matter how much is said about tricks for slots in bars or about the 10 slot cheats that changed the industry. But even so, we must always keep in mind that luck, and only luck, has the last word.
